Create a multi-year community vision and master plan for recreation and leisure programs and facilities in the Municipality of Belleville. Secure Council approval, funding, partnerships, vendors, community support and execute as approved and appropriate
ACTION
With deep collaborative input, created an integrated community vision and master plan. Delivered highly visible, community-supported, and recognized best-in-class programs, within efficient and appropriate state-of-the-art facilities that meet present and future local / regional needs.
RESULTS
- Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre – $30M ‘Community Hub – Sport, Community Programs & Event Tourism Centre; a multi-purpose regional sports and wellness centre. The facility continues to drive increased revenues, and tourism opportunities by ensuring that the Hub’s units within are at top standard and can attract regional, provincial, and national sports events.
- $20M expansion and revitalization of the Yardmen (CAA Arena) — Now a regional sports and events centre. Meeting American Hockey League standards, the facility can successfully host professional sports, entertainment, and events.
- Belleville Senators of the AHL — Signing a multi-year agreement. The relocation of the Ottawa Senators farm team from New York State to Belleville realizes over $20M annually being injected into the regional economy. Belleville has one of 4 AHL teams and one of 11 professional hockey teams in Canada.
- Multi-Use Field Sport and Event Facility – M.A. Sills Park — This facility has 5 regulation lit and irrigated sports fields, one with artificial turf, a track and field facility, a field house, 80 vehicle parking and seating facilities.
- An Entertainment Pavilion in Zwick’s Park — This covered facility with a full raised stage and back of house, allows events and event support within a large multi-use waterfront park in Belleville. Seating for over 300 is available.
- Upgrading many Community Centres & Sport Fields — Many of these multi-use facilities were upgraded to allow community-operated centres with municipal support. Many sports fields were updated, upgraded and enhanced for safety and multi-use.
- Municipal Harbour Report — Providing City Council with operational modeling options into the future. Private Public Partnerships and other modeling considered providing an opportunity for a shared cost /benefit opportunity and increased opportunities for a better leveraging of high-valued assets.
- Marina Upgrades and Service Enhancements — Increased investments in asset management are necessary for realizing the highest revenues and investment opportunities.
